The modulus shows the composition of sodium silicate and is an important parameter of sodium silicate, generally between 1.5 and 3.5. The larger the modulus of sodium silicate, the more difficult it is for solid sodium silicate to dissolve in water. When n is 1, it can dissolve in room temperature water, but when n is increased, it requires hot water to dissolve. When n is greater than 3, it requires more than 4 atmospheres of steam to dissolve. The larger the modulus of sodium silicate, the higher the Si content, the higher the viscosity of sodium silicate, making it easier to decompose and harden, and the stronger the bonding force. Moreover, the degree of polymerization of sodium silicate varies with different moduli, resulting in significant differences in the silicate components that have important effects on production and application in its hydrolysis products. Therefore, sodium silicate with different moduli has different uses.
Wet process uses liquid caustic soda and quartz sand as raw materials, and after heating and pressure reaction, liquid products are obtained.
